well........i guess you could experience how to play violin by yourself, and maybe the result won't be as bad as we usually think, to learn without a teacher. myself don't have an instructor, but i do realize that you might be going through a lot of unnecessary roads because you don't have an instructor. just like me......

but oh well, if we are playing for fun~ all that matters is that we had fun from playing~

(i do have to mention that it is hard to fix bad habites though./:P)

and buy a violin round 500.00rmb, a rather cheap one, I wonder if it is suitable for me...

If you want to play the violin only for a fun and a few populare songs, to enjor yourself for yourself own , that doesn't matter whether you would like to ask for a teacher or not , as you might manage to operate yourself to learn by yourself and have no more higher requirement of making beautiful sounds.

If you would have a plan to learn the violin more better and enjoy yourself by the violin in the future, a suggestion is kindly sent to you that you'd better to ask for a violin coach who could make a realstic plan for you on violin studies, and then you would like to find how the beautiful sounds would like to be and enjoy yourself more.
