6/19/07 – The second round of the violin portion of the Tchaikovsky Competition is now underway, with 13 violinists surviving the first cut. They are, in order of their first-round appearance:

5/11/07 – The Victoria (BC) Times Colonist noted that Victoria violinist Nikki Chooi, 17, gave a concert in Victoria last weekend before “heading off to two of the world's biggest classical music competitions. He will compete in the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in Auckland later this month and the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, in which he is the youngest violinist and the only Canadian. In fact, he is the first Canadian violinist to be invited to compete since 1962.”

Un Soeng (Republic of Korea) Independant expert opinion: This day has not presented to us of pleasant opening. Wang Zhijiong(China) executed Vaksman's "Carmen" on II round so well . Today she has played very thin, musically, but, probably, she did not have any more forces on Tchaikovsky. Un Soeng (Republic of Korea), probably, has suffered prolonged anxiety, she has made many discrepancies( it is not in her style), and almost all time she has pinched, that was tiresome for the listener. The final of the Competition of such complexity can be compared to last kilometers of a marathon - the most difficult has begun only now. Lundin Alexey Vladimirovich, the winner of the international competitions. As a result of voting in III round have passed: 3. Borisoglebsky Nikita (Russia) 5. Yanki Yucci Manuela (Germany) 23. Wang Zhijiong (China) 25. Un Soeng (Republic of Korea) 28.Hyon-Su Shin (Republic of Korea) 31. Каmio Mauko(Japan) Diplomas of the Competition and encouraging premiums have been awarded following participants of II round: 13. Сhooi Nikki(Canada) 33.Shishkov Artem (Belarus) The Prize "Hope" of group of the companies "Stolniy Grad "( for the most perspective musicians, who have not passed in III round), has been awarded following participant: 13. Сhooi Nikki(Canada) Diplomas and premiums have been awarded to following best concertmasters of the Competition: Natalia Grines Independant expert opinion: Jury voting has ended late at night. It was not simple choice, but the strongest, in my opinion, are selected on results of two rounds. We shall look, as they will show themselves in the ending. I am so sorry about Artem Shishkov, but competition is competition. Lundin Alexey Vladimirovich, the winner of the international competitions.
